The Berlin 6G Conference 2025 brought together a diverse mix of global innovators, researchers, and policy leaders to align visions for the next generation of connectivity. A highlight of the international collaboration session on Tuesday, 2 July 2025, was Professor Harald Haas’ keynote, offering a compelling UK perspective on Advanced Connectivity Technologies.

In his talk, “Advanced Communication Technologies – A UK Perspective,” Professor Haas emphasised the UK’s strategic momentum in shaping 6G, from leading-edge wireless research to real-world testbeds and commercialisation. Professor Haas underscored the UK’s ambition not only to lead in research excellence but to ensure the technologies developed domestically play a global role in future network infrastructure.

Professor Haas’ presentation was part of a broader International 6G Collaboration session chaired by Hans Schotten (6G Platform Germany), featuring expert contributions from the Netherlands, Finland, South Africa, Japan, Singapore, and the European research community. The session concluded with a robust panel discussion exploring opportunities and tensions in global 6G collaboration.

The UK’s ACT sector is already a vital part of the national innovation landscape. The country hosts over 2,800 firms involved in ACT, contributing an estimated £11.1 billion in global GVA in 2024. With the UK Government investing over £300 million since 2022 in ACT R&D, including initiatives like the Federated Telecoms Hubs, of which TITAN is a part, the UK is actively shaping the global future of digital infrastructure. ACT is projected to deliver £14.6 billion in productivity gains to the UK’s GDP by 2035.

Haas’ contribution spotlighted the UK’s strong foundations in ACT and its clear commitment to international partnerships, open innovation, and future-proof infrastructure. The message was clear: the UK is not just participating in the global 6G conversation—it is helping lead it.

TITAN is part of the Federated Telecoms Hubs (FTH) alongside CHEDDAR, HASC, and JOINER. Together, we conduct world-leading R&D and create a new knowledge-sharing framework, roadmap technology, develop skills, and engage with standards while instilling a commercialisation-focused mindset across academia.
