Attending as a guest of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Taiwan, TITAN Hub Director, Prof Harald Haas joined fellow top 6G world experts at the recent IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM) 2025 conference in Taipei to support the unveiling of Taiwan’s first 6G base station antenna system, by the Department of Industrial Technology of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), Taiwan, and ITRI. TITAN, together with the JOINER Platform, has worked with the MOEA to deliver the world’s first 4096-unit large-scale, reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) module which offers microsecond-level phase switching and precise beam control. With the addition of RIS deployment management and real-time control technology, it can reduce the number of base stations and improve signal blind spots in high-frequency environments, making it suitable for complex indoor settings such as factories, stations and exhibition halls.
In further telecoms news, we are also thrilled to share with you that TITAN and ITRI are planning a project together to co-develop a free-space optical (FSO) modem for satellite communications, a core component of non-terrestrial networks (NTNs), which will lead to a deepening collaboration between our two parties. Watch this space for further announcements next year!
