Quantum Networks Integration

The six Lighthouse Projects spearhead cutting-edge research. The projects tackle high-level topics and experimentation, driving targeted Mini Projects to solve specific challenges within the field.

Lighthouse Project 6 (LP6) focuses on quantum networks integration. Research into “Quantum Networks Integration” focuses on developing communication systems that leverage the principles of quantum mechanics to create ultra-secure and highly efficient networks.

LP6 Lead: Professor Richard Penty, University of Cambridge.

Quantum networks offer the potential for unprecedented levels of data security through quantum encryption, which is virtually unbreakable by current technological standards. This research is pivotal in addressing the growing concerns over data privacy and cybersecurity, particularly in sensitive areas like finance, government communications, and critical infrastructure.

LP6’s work looks at:

  • New architectural solutions for combining quantum and classic communications
  • E2E physical layer security/crypto
  • Quantum router
  • Distributed computing and sensing

LP6 leads the following Mini Projects:

  • MP30 – Co-existent entanglement based QKD with classical dat on metropolitan networks
  • MP31 – Solar-blind ultraviolet Micro-LEDS for optical Communications and Quantum Key Distribution SUMO-QKD
  • MP32 – Quantum networks and Cryptography
  • MP33 – Distributed computing over quantum multiple access networks

Each of these projects will soon have its own web pages. Coming soon!
