User-Centric Service-Aware Radio Access Control, Integration and Optimisation

The 6 Lighthouse Projects spearhead cutting-edge research. The projects tackle high-level topics and experimentation, driving targeted Mini Projects to solve specific challenges within the field.

Lighthouse Project 2 (LP2) focuses on user-centric service-aware radio access control, integration and optimisation. The work’s outcomes will support broader societal goals.

LP2 Lead: Professor Michalis Matthaiou, Queens University Belfast.

Optimised network performance not only boosts economic growth by fostering innovation and productivity but also contributes to social inclusion by improving access to high-quality communication services in underserved areas.

Additionally, by enabling more efficient use of network resources, these advancements can help reduce energy consumption, aligning with global sustainability efforts.

LP2’s work looks at:

  • Cell-free, high- density wireless networks
  • Energy-efficient wireless networks
  • Massive and holographic MIMO
  • Reflective Intelligent Surfaces (RIS)
  • Sub-THz

Mini Projects

LP2 leads the following Mini Projects:

  • MP7 – Cyber-physical systems (CPS)
  • MP8 – Terahertz integrated sensing and communications theories
  • MP9 – Cell-free masive MIMO: from theory to implementation
  • MP10 – Friend or Foe: securing future radio access technologies

Each of these projects will soon have its own web pages. Coming soon!
